Press On

Are you stuck, stalled, or just completely sapped? Trying to figure out how to press on one more day?

Well, here comes hope!

This is Vince Miller.

Our text today is from Philippians 3:13-14. It reads:

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 3:13-14

Every man is going to find himself at that point. At some point, you will feel stuck, stalled, or sapped. But Paul, in this verse, provides us with some great wisdom. Wisdom that we need to press into. Wisdom that, if we can remember, will help us forget.

There are two operative ideas in this text.

The first is "forget." You have to forget. But not forget everything. Just forget the right thing. And the right thing to forget is the wrong thing that you did. The truth is we all do wrong things. Things that end us in situations we don't need to be in. Things that result in suffering for us and others. And some of us will stew and stir on these things until shame wears us down. Until we are imprisoned by our thoughts, which shackles us to inaction and apathy in our life.

The second is "remember." This word is inferred in this text, but it's a strong and clear inference. We are told that in those moments, we are stuck, stalled, or sapped to remember one thing. The thing that lies ahead. The thing we are supposed to press and strain toward. The prize that's already been won. You don't have to win it or work for it. It has been won for you by Jesus. All we have to do is press, strain, and hear the one voice we are supposed to be listening to. God's voice calling from heaven — "Run like you've won, and press on until time is done."

So today, what do you need to forget? The voice of the past you've failed to forget. Confess it. Forget it. And then remember to press on.

And live all for him, who lived all in for you.

ASK THIS: What is that thing you need to forget? Why are you holding onto it? Are you ready to forget so you can remember?

DO THIS: Listen to the voice of God calling you to "Run like you've won."

PRAY THIS: God, help me forget and give me the strength to remember.

PLAY THIS: Press On.

  1. Eddie Ackerman says:

Psalm 103:12: as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us.

God not only forgives our sins, He removes them beyond where we could EVER see them while we are living here on earth.

    Thanks Vince!

I really like these verses and passage and explanation… I enjoy running and working out so for me I look at it from that perspective from time to time… I don’t do well running backwards (just saying), I stumble, fall, and get hurt… we are meant to run forward.

To get results working out we need to strain for it, I will not get results doing easy things and quite simply wasting my time, but if I want results I push it harder each time.

My inability to get out of a stuck situation is lays on me since He (Jesus) has already provided all for me to get free!!! Now is up to me, running free or stuck in my filthy pass. I RUN and I’m running fast towards Jesus each and every day… I want to get to Heaven tire of doing His will for I know He will give me rest once I get there. Thank you Jesus!
