Power & Provision

Are you in a drought and need power and provision?

This is Vince Miller.

Our text today is from Jeremiah 17:7-8. It reads:

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. — Jeremiah 17:7-8

So every man is going to encounter a spiritual drought. A season that will test the limits of their power and provision.

But what if God intentionally planted you right in the middle of that season? What if he put you in it so that you would discover the limits of your power and provision to show you the unlimited power and provision of God?

That’s what we are told here. That God is fully aware of what is going on in the seasons of our life and that he knows just what we need. Even though we might be surprised by our drought, it never surprises God. He knows when it’s coming, how long it will last, and what we need.

Our job is not to be concerned about the drought or the provision but to trust in the Lord. To trust that he knows all things. To trust that he has planted right where we need to be. To trust that he will provide.

Keep in mind, we can’t control certain things. We can’t control the seasons. We can’t control their length. We can’t control where we’re planted in them. We can’t be concerned about things because they are outside of our control. Our concern is to trust in the Lord. To trust that he will never put us in a situation where we won’t have access to all the resources we need. That we will never be unproductive, even in unfavorable seasons.

So if you are in a drought, don’t try to control it. He controls it. You don’t. Trust in the Lord who has control, and if you do, you will discover the limitless power and provision he has already planned to provide for you.

I have been following you for at least the last (5) years. I was sorry to see that you gave up the daily devotional on the Gospel of John. I thought they were your very best. With a little editing, I thought they would make up a wonderful daily devotional that could be published in book form. Your insight was nothing less than breath taking.

  3. gonzalo says:

Your will be done Lord. Where you have me, help me be all I can be for your Kingdom!

  4. Trent says:

Amen. Yes Lord. May I say nothing but “yes Lord”. I try to control all situations around me cause I am SO smart that I obviously know best. And the more I fight the less it seems falls in the place I have laid out for it. Give me strength to run the race set before me and stop working so hard on knowing, seeing, or altering the course.
