Apart From You

Apart From You

Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
I say to the Lord, "You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you."—Psalm 16:1-2

When I feel strong, I rarely take refuge. Instead, it is when I need preservation that refuge beckons me. In weakness, despair, and confusion, I will look for any means possible of removing the challenge and finding a solution. The interesting thing is that refuge is not found by eliminating the problem and finding a solution — refuge is found in a personthe Lord. And notice it's a personal Lord — "my Lord." While God is Lord of circumstances, he wants more to be Lord of men; Lord of me and you.

Gentlemen, it is the challenges of life that drive us, refugees, to the Lord. While we want the problems to end, consider the fact that maybe the present trial is trying to get you to see that relief, solution, and peace is found in the Lord amidst the circumstances. What you may need are not new circumstances, but situations encountered with God who apart from there is nothing good.

DO THIS: Invite God to be Lord of you through the circumstances.

PRAY THIS: God, help me to take refuge in you, given my present challenges.

We All Have A Master

We All Have A Master

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.—Matthew 6:24

Have you ever wanted the best of both worlds?

There are times you will want the advantage of two very different objects at the same time. For example, you may want the peace of living in the country but the access of living in the city. And while you may desire the benefits of both, attaining both is often impossible. For example, the conflict between two competing philosophies is not possible; at least that is what Jesus teaches above. At some point, the philosophy we serve is declared by our daily choices. So be careful. While our words say one thing, our actions might say another — yet the division of our devotion happens within our hearts. And a divided heart is not possible with God. He is an all-in God who gives man an all-in choice. And in the end, everyone is all-in, but this is determined by the object you serve.

DO THIS: Assess the objects you serve today. Make sure it's God and nothing else.

PRAY THIS: God, do an inventory of my life and make known to me any wayward pursuit that is trivial or distracts in my quest of you.

The All In Heart

All-In-Heart-a-daily-devotional-by-Vince-Miller-at-Resolute-All-In-Conference

The All In Heart

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.—Jeremiah 29:13

Going all-in begins with a search; an all-out search. We have such divided hearts as men. But our hearts are only divided over two pursuits—the pursuit of self or the pursuit of God. Because the lure of the self is so strong, we must have an undivided heart to pursue God. The irresistible pull of self is working on our heart, mind, and soul deep within our desires. So each day, we must choose to seek and find with all that we have. We must be tireless in this pursuit when the "self" beckons. And it will sound its voice in a private sense of loneliness, in a moment of injustice at work, in a moment that a child is disobedient, or when our spouse lashes out. We will want to seek self. So in these moments, we have a choice; we can go all-in for self, or all-in for God.

DO THIS: Go all-in for God.

PRAY THIS: God, when that irresistible pursuit of self calls to today, help me to shun its voice and go all-in for you.
