Live A Life Of Consequence

So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” — John 12:35-36

The question just asked of Jesus was, "Who is this Son of Man?" And the answer, of course, is Jesus.

But Jesus doesn't give them a direct answer. But he infers that he is "The Son of Man" and invites them to follow him to see for themselves. Thus if they take him up on this offer and join him, they will become "sons of light." But, to achieve this, they must come out of the darkness of their deception and step with him into the light of understanding.

What we see here is the challenge of trying to persuade non-believers to believe. Non-believers are sometimes so clouded by deception that it's hard to see into the light. Therefore, they must choose to step into enlightening environments where their thoughts adjust, their actions change, and they embrace a new identity. And this is the invitation Jesus offers. Jesus essentially says to them, "I would love to explain this to you, but explanations will not work for you because you are living in deception. The only way for me to explain this truth to you the truth is for you to join me in the light and see for yourself."

Like Jesus, we should do the same with those who do not yet believe. It is our responsibility to be men of the light worth following, men whose lives are so radically different that just walking with us makes people different. Moreover, following us should result in eye-opening opportunities and experiences that change people. We should be spiritual leaders whose lives and leadership offer people the opportunities to renew their minds, reform their actions, and restore their identities.

So, given this, what do you need to do differently to be that man who provides others with that kind of life change?

ASK THIS:

  1. How can we cultivate lives that are so radically different and aligned with the light of Christ that simply walking with us inspires transformative change in others?
  2. In what practical ways can we create enlightening environments and experiences that offer individuals the opportunity to renew their minds, reform their actions, and restore their identities?

DO THIS: Be a man of the light worth following.

PRAY THIS: God, as a man seeking to walk in Your light, I humbly pray that You guide my steps and reveal Your truth so that I may become a vessel of transformation and an instrument of Your love in this world. Amen.

PLAY THIS: My Lighthouse.

  1. Eddie Ackerman says:

met a relative of mine on my wife’s side of the family today that had an interesting pendant around her neck. I asked her what that was all about and she said it’s Pagan. Hours earlier, before asking about the pendant, I offered her a pocket Bible. I apologized for potentially offending her when she left because it might be considered insensitive to offer words from a different religious source than someone else already believes in as a way to evangelize them. Our job is to scatter seeds of truth by acts of love into people’s lives, not inspect the soil of people’s hearts. ONLY God can change people’s hearts from unfavorable hearts not receptive to the Words of truth to hearts that are softened and are receptive to the Words of truth.
