A Man Adrift
Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.—Hebrews 2:1
The enemy has numerous methods for assaulting a man of God. One of his more devious ways is what I call "the drift." He lures a man with small or even micro-decisions made over a long period. While men are mindful of these micro-decisions, the long-term consequences will escape them. And this is all part of the enemy's plan. He wants you to be surprised by the catastrophic impact of the long-term effects. Unconscious of the impact, men will be tempted to engage in acts of momentary pleasure. But here's the deal—now you are conscious, therefore knowing this devious plan, you must daily "pay much closer attention to what you have heard, lest you drift."
DO THIS: Avoid the drift and test every desire, thought, and action.
PRAY THIS: God, alert me when the choices I am presented with today lead to drift. Sound a loud alarm in me!
