Accountable Men
“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself." Galatians 6:1-4
Eventually, you will get "caught" in some act of misbehavior. And this moment is important not only for the "transgressor" but for the one who is in the "spiritual" guide. The key is your approach. And you know how important your level of sensitivity is in this moment of "restoration." It's important for two reasons. First, you have been the offender and have awareness of sin's embarrassment. Second, a strong and soft approach for the guide makes all the difference. Any manager, father, friend, and leader knows that "restoring him in a spirit of gentleness" is a delicate balancing act - yet it can be done. It requires is a watchful eye "on self" lest our attempt tips into self-righteousness. You are called to be a "bearer of another's burdens" so do not shy away or run from these moments of accountability because this is the way you "fulfill the law of Christ."
DO THIS: Hold someone accountable today.
PRAYER: God, I often believe a person's faith is only a private thing. But I am reminded today it's not. Some friends are dying spiritually in silence, and I enable their ongoing sin when I refuse to carry their troubles. Help me today as I hold my brothers accountable. May I do it in a way that is sensitive to them, humble in attitude, and edifies your name.
