Three Essential Activities For The Spiritual Leader
Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. — 1 Timothy 4:13
This is a shortened list of activities Paul is giving Timothy to do. He is simplifying the longer list of issues that have spanned four chapters into three repetitive actions that he can practice daily.
- Read truth.
- Preach truth.
- Teach truth.
This threefold emphasis stresses three activities that must be at the center of his daily practice. And notice what Paul is not concerned about. He's not concerned about stage design and lighting. He's not concerned about musicians and musical performances. He is not concerned about the bumper video or who's presenting the announcements. He's not concerned about capital campaigns, the title of the next sermon series, or where they will collect the offering. The only thing on Paul's mind is the truth and the three essential activities that will advance this truth. That Timothy as a spiritual leader will be faithful to reading, preaching, and teaching the truth because nothing else matters if God's people don't hear about, talk about, and teach about God.
Just food for thought today.
ASK THIS: Are you reading, preaching, and teaching the truth?
DO THIS: Try to do all three today.
PRAY THIS: God, use me to teach your truth.
PLAY THIS: The Truth.

Paul tells us why reading the truth, preaching the truth, and teaching the truth matter. “Spirit expressly states that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons (1 Timothy 4:1)”. Deceit is worse than lies. Deceit has an agenda.
And GOOD food for thought it was! Thanks Vince. Bottom line: Paul’s instructions are tied to elevating Jesus and HIS Kingdom. I will leave it at that! 😉👆
Yes! We must keep the main things the main things
Basics Timothy, basics and truth.
Random and possibly and ignorant question…did the letters get to Timothy before Paul died?
Yes, they did. Great question!
Great reminder Vince. Let’s not complicate the message. Just read the message, preach the message and teach the message. Amen.
2 Timothy 1
King James Version
6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
