Anticipate Speechless
And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day that these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.—Luke 1:20
Have you ever been genuinely speechless? Mouth dropping, out of breath, hold your tongue speechless. Well, Zechariah was—made mute but because of his unbelief.
Here's the backstory.
Zechariah, a priest, was married to Elizabeth, and they were a righteous couple. Elizabeth was unable to have children, and Zechariah, one day while serving in the Temple, was told by the angel Gabriel that his wife would have a son. A son of natural conception and birth in spite of two impossibilities. You see, Elizabeth was old in years and barren her whole life, which crushed their hopes of ever being able to have any children. However, everything would soon change for this God-fearing family. Their child would be John, a prophet, and one who proclaimed the way of Jesus Christ. For Zachariah's unbelief, he becomes mute until the birth. From the speechless would come a man who speaks to prepare the way for the Word of God. Speechless!
DO THIS: Give God one-minute of silence today.
PRAY THIS: God, like Zechariah, I too fail to believe. I see the human circumstance, physical challenges, resources of talent, even my age and experience, and sometimes forget that you are God over these things too. Just like Zechariah, I fail to believe. But increase my faith, take from me my disbelief, and may I never be speechless about the great works you have done and will do.
