APPLY FEEDBACK
The ear that listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise. Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.
Proverbs 15:31-32
Accountability can be painful. It is important to consider that what is painful is not always harmful. It is painful to have a cavity filled, but it is meant to help prevent harm. In the same way, accountability can be uncomfortable and helpful at the same time. Without it, men are vulnerable to significant injury. I have learned to embrace the reproof of others because I can not afford an accountability deficit.
"Reproof" is accountability that comes from surrounding yourself with wise people and allowing them to evaluate and speak into your life. The payoff for you is intelligence. The cost is humility and application of the feedback given to you. Men that master asking for accountability are men that make a profound impact on the world. Stop ignoring the instruction and start listening to and applying the feedback of wise people in your life. A deficit of accountability is no different than self-hatred. Do yourself a favor this week and seek out the life-altering words of someone willing to offer you accountability.
