7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 7:7-11

At the beginning of His ministry on Earth, Jesus observed a crowd and took action. He climbed up onto the side of a mountain and began to teach. The words from His mouth expose the heart of the Father before the crowd of people sitting at His feet. As Jesus was modeling generosity with His time and teaching, we also see God's heart for giving. God wants to give, but men need to ask.

Every man is qualified to receive from God. There is no form of payment or effort that would trigger a gift from God. God gives good gifts when men ask! Jesus' brother James says it this way,"You do not have because you do not ask God." Well-wishing and good intentions are not the same as making a request. We know this to be true in life as well. Seek God out by going to Him in prayer. Make your request and let Him give you what is good.
