The following is a technique I use with men in groups (Awareness Intelligence Cycle) that helps them improve as disciples and leaders. This is self-imposed activity is used for developing higher awareness as a disciple & leader that results in rapid personal development. If we can master this process in our personal and professional life, we will head down a path of constant improvement and overcome the obstacles to growth. The following is a short synopsis of the process.
1. AWARENESS OF AN INDICATOR
- Person becomes aware that something is “out-of-place”
- RESPONSE A: We address “out-of-place” issue (move to #2)
- RESPONSE B:
- Person ignores unintentionally (get distracted)
- Person ignores intentionally (an ongoing flaw & offer excuse)
- An Observer becomes aware that something is “out-of-place” with said Person
- RESPONSE A: Observer could choose to increase our awareness but this:
- Could be embarrassing (depending on the Indicator)
- Could be difficult to navigate (supervisor, parent)
- Complex to address (risk) by the Observer due to four factors:
- The deeper the issue the higher the risk
- The farther the relationship the higher the risk
- The lower the teachability the higher the risk
- The greater the isolation the higher the risk
- RESPONSE B: Observer ignores and hopes the person will figure it out on their own.
- RESPONSE A: Observer could choose to increase our awareness but this:
2. CONNECTION OF INDICATOR TO AN EFFECT
- We follow the connection of a sign (effect) to the issue (cause or the thing that is out-of-place)
- Involves a sense of curiosity, mystery, wanting
- Dependent on our ability and willingness to listen
- Signs (effects) can come from different dimensions of our life
- Personal Character
- Leadership Style, Talent, Skill
- How we Deal with Problems
- Conflict Resolution
- Authority
- Time/Rest/Space
3. RESOLVING THE CA– USE
- Resolution is relatively simple
- Resolution completes the “aha” experience
- Resolution increases the likelihood that the pattern of A.I. will repeat
- Resolution is extremely difficult:
- When it is a pattern that has played out for a long time
- When it is a pattern that if changed could alter life
- When it is a pattern that might disrupt a major area of life
- Resolution creates new mental wiring that resulting from in experiential learning
