Be A Samaritan
"But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion."—Luke 10:33
The story of the Good Samaritan is without a doubt one of Jesus' most generous and challenging stories. Probably because we find ourselves connecting with both characters in the story. On the one hand, we connect with the self-righteous and self-concerned passers-by. And, on the other hand, with a man broken and reliant on the generosity of another. Either way, Jesus' "Good Samaritan" is the most unlikely heroine. And while racially and religiously it was absurd to turn this Samaritan into a hero, the Samaritan was a man who did what heroes do. He opens his sights, his soul, his hands, his treasure, and his time to a distressed person that even those from his race and religion ignored. So today do the same. Open yourself to the needs of those around you.
DO THIS: Open your senses to people who need compassion.
PRAYER: God, allow me to show your compassion to those in need.
