Be Bright
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
As summer begins to draw to an end, so the amount of daylight will decrease. At the peak of summer, the long days hold with them extended amounts of light and warmth that give us more time to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family. Conversely, as fall begins, we encounter more days of increasing darkness. While this change in light exposure is seasonal, Jesus does not expect us to be seasonal followers. The use of the light metaphor above is illustrative of the positive impact your thoughts, words, and actions have on the world. "Letting our light shine" is not to be brilliant in and of yourselves to draw attention to yourself. It is illustrative of enlightenment that has occurred in you by Jesus. It's your way to let the world "see your Father who is in heaven."
DO THIS: Be brilliant today.
PRAYER: God, you are the light of understanding within me. May people see this in and through me today through my thoughts, words, and action. Illuminate the world through me.
