But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

Daniel 1:8

Daniel was among the exiles, taken violently from the promised land and led to a spiritually hostile territory. The king was determined to influence them according to the pagan practices and spared no expense to do so. Daniel was resolved to stay committed to God even in the midst of opportunity to do otherwise.

The temptation to live contrary to the way of God is as potent today as it was during the time of Daniel. All men face the challenge of being drawn away from life according to God. Remind yourself to resolutely decide who you will follow. Let Daniel's example motivate you to remain committed to God in a world that will tempt you otherwise.
