Be Subject Not Suspect

ENGLISH

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”—1 Peter 5:5

This adage seems almost counter-cultural. When is the last time you have witnessed the willing submission of someone spiritually young to a spiritually mature man? But why is this so counter-cultural and challenging? Maybe because our world is filled with pride and entitlement. A willingness to be subject requires great faith, but it also requires humility. And while this appears scary, an adventure of grace awaits the man who can be humble. And the bonus? You won't be opposed by God, who works out all things according to his will anyway.

ASK THIS: Are you willing to submit?

DO THIS: Submit to God, and subject yourselves to his leadership.

PRAY THIS: God, give me a spirit of humility where I embrace pride.

PLAY THIS: Kristian Stanfill. My Heart Is Yours.
