Blessing Is Guaranteed
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.— Proverbs 3:9-10
This proverb seems straightforward, but its application is often misapplied. And there are two ways we misapply it. The first is by assuming that giving God the firstfruits of our money will increase our money. The problem with applying it this way is that God doesn't need our money. Money has no bearing on God. God is the source of all things. He doesn't need anything. What is God going to do with our money? What God wants, in this text, is our priority demonstrated by giving him the firstfruits of our money. What we get back from him is an abundance of him. Our barns and wine vats are full of him — for he is the commodity we seek and want. Money is irrelevant when we have an abundance of God. For with God, we get everything, and money is irrelevant. The second way we misapply this text is by assuming that this only applies to money, but it doesn't. It's about the firstfruits of everything we have. This includes our money, but it also includes our time and talents. So the question this raises is — are you giving all you have of the first fruits of your time, talent, and treasure to God? Are you giving him priority over everything?
One small way to practice this is by giving him the firstfruits of your time, talent, and treasure every day. To intentionally find some way to give one of these three things to him today. Do it and see if God does not bless you with more of the thing you really want — not things, but Him!
ASK THIS: How will you give God priority over your time, talent, and treasure today?
DO THIS: Do it, and receive an abundance of Him.
PRAY THIS: God, I give you my priority today. Everything I have is yours.
PLAY THIS: Yours (Glory and Praise) — Elevation Worship.
