And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.—Ephesians 4:11-12
There is a role for everyone in the body. Here the writer describes five such roles. The roles are expressed through gifts given by God and are used for building up. They are used for the advantage of a living organism—the body of Christ. Are you using the gift God gave you? Do you use it only for self-edification or equipping the saints? If not, your gift has a use in the world, but it also has a use in the body of Christ. Use it today to bring glory to God and not yourself. Then watch as God does something greater with what you perceive to be an insignificant gift.
ASK THIS: Are you using your gift?
DO THIS: Use it for others in the body and watch it multiply.
PRAY THIS: God, use all of me and the gifts you have given to me as a blessing to your people in your time and your way. May I surrender all to you to be used by you for impact in the body of Christ.
