Stop Getting Burned
“Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned?” Proverbs 6:27
There are some things that you don’t need to do to fully comprehend. For example, you don’t have to touch a flame to "be burned." You need only get close enough, and the damage is done. And while you’ll want to test the limits of the fire by offering a statement of embellishment; or a taking a small taste of what is forbidden; or taking a secret look with your eyes; or engaging in an innocent emotional interchange - it's not only the final act that's wrong. It’s the inclination of the act, the thoughts of the act, and the actions preceding the act. Unfortunately, you’ll probably have to learn this lesson the hard way. But trust the experience of this author’s wisdom. If you get to close the flames, the “clothes” you wear might catch fire, and the fire will scar in ways that can never be undone.
DO THIS: Don’t get too close to the flame.
PRAYER: God, help me avoid the flames and recall the power of these words at the moment I need it most.
