Catalytic Growth

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.—Ephesians 4:15-16

Notice that the well-known phrase "speak the truth in love" appears in the context of a growing body of believers. In other words, we should speak as if we really need each other and want the best for each other. Is this the case in your Christian community? If not, we must recognize that the way we speak affects the way we grow as a whole. When we speak, we must remember it's not about getting our way; the aim is to grow up together with Christ in mind. It might be good to consider the way Christ spoke truth to believers that needed it so that it's his truth building itself up in love.

ASK THIS: In what one relationship do you need to speak more lovingly?

DO THIS: Speak one word of love to that person today.

PRAY THIS: God, change my language. I always want to be a part of building your brotherhood, not tearing it down.
