Celebrate Shamelessly
And David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the Lord—and I will celebrate before the Lord. I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your eyes.” 2 Samuel 6:21-22
There is always that one person who wants to quench your fire. They are a wet blanket in joyous moments. And for David, this moment was one of incredible joy. The Ark of the Covenant, which had been stolen from the temple, is now back home in the city of David. And this moment was worthy of real celebration. It was a celebration of colossal proportions. Yet David's wife, Michal, was quick to judge his appearance while parading down the street. Concerned only of herself, she made a quick public proclamation. But David, overcome with enthusiasm was not considering appearances or the rediculous nature of his public behavior. He was overcome with God, and he was not going to let anyone steal his joy. He was determined to "celebrate before the Lord." To add insult to injury, he even continues, "I will make myself yet more contemptible that this," as to ensure that everyone, even those closest to him, understood that shameless celebration is called for when God has victory.
DO THIS: Celebrate shameless God's victory in you.
PRAYER: God, while I am often timid about sharing your joy, help me not to hold back today, or be overly concerned about what others think. Give me a sense of pride that causes me to celebrate shamelessly.
