Church Division
"I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.” 1 Corinthians 1:10
This is an "appeal" to a church that is not getting along. And if you have been a Christian even for a short period, you know the church is not absent from conflict. While experiencing this conflict, you may have strong opinions about the outcomes you desire. But be mindful that you may never find the perfect experience you seek. But you there is one unifying factor, and it's "the name of the Lord Jesus Christ." The author appeals to this single unifying factor, and it's not a concept, theology, or even your opinion, but rather it's a person - "Jesus Christ." And remember it's not just any person it is the "Lord," a title to not be overlooked. A title that infers everyone else, including you, is a subject to his lordship. And may this be a reminder the next time you want something to go your way, be your way, or run your way in the church of your utopia. Brother, you follow a great God with other "brothers," and when you fall in line behind him it's not your way you are after - it's the Lord's way. And when you all together follow the Lord's way, there is also the "same mind" and the "same judgment."
DO THIS: Live in unity not division.
PRAYER: God, today help me to see your way through conflict. May I serve you first, and not serve up my own opinions. You are the highest truth and help the people I am in disagreement with to see Christ in me.
