Get On The Combine Or Get Out Of The Way
Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.” — John 4:35-38
Please remember the context. The disciples come back with food, and Jesus takes a moment to point out the spiritual opportunity. He explains that there is a harvest all around them. In places, they might least expect it — like Samaria. And then, he describes how the process is going to work. First, they must pay attention. Second, they must play their role. And third, they will reap a payoff.
And in my years of ministry, I have learned that we can mess up all three of these steps of the process. We can mess up by not paying attention to the spiritual opportunities before us. We mess up by not playing our role and using our gifts and talent for spiritual purposes. And third, we mess up by failing to understand that God gets the glory and reward. So stop messing up the process and "get on the Combine today" because there's a harvest out there, and Jesus has done and is always doing his part.
ASK THIS: What do you need to do to get on the Combine today?
DO THIS: Do one of these three better: pay attention, play your role, or reap the payoff.
PRAY THIS: God, show me the harvest today.
PLAY THIS: Honey In The Rock.
