Common Temptations
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.—1 Corinthians 10:13
Sometimes you convince yourself that there is something unique to your temptations. The temptations that lead to repetitive sin and thus bondage. That your temptations somehow have an extraordinary power over you that cannot be overcome. That they are exclusive to you and no one else has experienced them. Paul, the apostle, says otherwise. He says that there is "no temptation" that someone else has not encountered. There is "no temptation" that has overtaken you that another person has not suffered or endured. And yet this truth is meant as an encouragement—in that you are normal and just like any other man. There isn't some unique tactic used on you. So stop the unbelief that your temptations cannot be endured and even overcome. For in Christ, you are a "conqueror" over the power and finality of sin. In Christ, you are victorious over the bondage of sin. Now stop the unbelief.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.—Romans 8:37-39
DO THIS: Stop the unbelief.
PRAYER: God, help me to overcome my unbelief. May I have faith in you through the temptations I face today. I am grateful that you have conquered all sin, even mine, and that you free me to live victorious today.
