Concerned Together

So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, Tychicus the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord will tell you everything.—Ephesians 6:21

As Paul closes off this marvelous letter, note his tone. He sounds almost emotional. He moves from the theological and practical implications he addressed in the rest of the book to the relationship he has with the church in Ephesus. He knows that his Christian brothers are concerned about his imprisonment in Rome, but he too is concerned about how they feel about him. He wants them to know how he is doing not just what he is doing.

Too often, we men try to do life alone. This is just not possible. We need brothers in our lives! A community that is concerned about our welfare. Do you have this? If not, you need to get it. And you cannot leave it up to others to do this for you. You must make time. Set a meeting. Build relationships. Serve another. And most of all, you need to be a good friend, to have a good friend.

If you lack spiritual friends and brothers, try reaching out to another man today. Build a relationship at your expense. Buy a coffee or a meal. Plan the meetup. There will come a day you, too, will need a friend when you feel trapped and imprisoned by a situation in your life. But don't do this alone. It's just not possible.

If you have a spiritual brother, good for you. Call or text and tell him how much you appreciate his friendship.

ASK THIS: Do you have a brother? One who makes you better?

DO THIS: Either reach out and be a friend or thank a friend!

PRAY THIS: God, I want to pray today for friends that you would bring men into my life that would make me a better man.
