Desire's Rudder

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.—Galatians 5:16

Desires don't just go away. They are with us for a lifetime. We choose to indulge them. But it's the fleshly ones that are especially attractive. They draw us in based on the things we want. And while our desires expose themselves through our decisions and the actions that result, the results are still merely an outcome of our real desires. But there is another way to direct yourself away from being controlled by fleshly consequences. "Walk by the Spirit," as the writer suggests. The walk is a journey taken one step at a time. So let's step it up together, by saying "no" to walking in the flesh and "yes" to walking in the Spirit. And remember it's God's Spirit, so when you walk with him, it is him you desire.

DO THIS: Say no and simultaneously say yes.

PRAYER: God, I want what you want for me today. It's the best anyway. Help me take one more step with you.
