Don't Back Down
"Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." —1 Corinthians 15:58
You will encounter moments that will be challenging and dictate a choice. Moments that will cause you to question yourself, next steps, and the future. Sometimes these are initiated by external opposition that will assert you need to "back down," "back away," or "back off." But most of the time they will not come in this form. Rather they will come in the form of self-talk — the internal voices of insecurity, fear, and doubt. When, and only when your steps align with God's Truth, you should never back down. The command is to be "steadfast, immovable." This is not being stubborn, but resolute. To be stubborn is to get your way in a way that brings attention to yourself. To be "steadfast, immovable" is to be firmly obedient drawing attention to God, even if it costs us something of great value — relationships, reputation, power, or profession.
DO THIS: Choose to be steadfast, immovable.
PRAYER: God, I feel like backing down, even though I know the right thing to do. Give me the strength and courage to choose your way and be steadfast, immovable.
