Earnestly Unashamed

May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains, but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me earnestly and found me—2 Timothy 1:16-17

What a special shout-out to Onesiphorus. And let's be honest, we, too, love these moments of recognition. And while we shouldn't let these affirmations go to our heads, they do help us to know when we are heading down the road of life in the right direction. For me, a small note, a kind word, or an "atta-boy" has the power to lift my spirits and keep me charging for days on end.

But what was it that Onesiphorous did that inspired Paul to include him here?

It may not appear to be much, but it was much to Paul. It was merely his unashamed earnest attitude by being present to Paul. While others had deserted and were ashamed, Onesiphorus was not—he moved toward and not away. That's it. And it may not seem much like a gift, but for Paul is was refreshing. So refreshing that he desires the Lord to grant him mercy.

So today, maybe it's time for you to do the same. Perhaps you know someone lonely in spirit that needs a word of encouragement. Share a text, a word, or a simple message with them. Lift their spirits by moving toward them, and you, too, will be granted mercy from the Lord.

ASK THIS: What do you need to tell someone today? (Share it in the comment section below.)

DO THIS: Send them a text right now.

PRAY THIS: God, give me the courage to encourage another
