The Effect of Your Belief Should Affect Others
I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. — John 17:20-23
We read in this prayer that Jesus is concerned about more than just his immediate disciples. He is concerned about all disciples in all times. He is concerned about us. He is concerned about our belief and our communication of God's Word, which always affects those who believe. And when they are working in harmony, it results in God's glory, oneness, and love for all who believe.
So, here is a question for you today. Is the effect of your belief in Jesus having a tangible effect? Is it transforming your marriage, guiding your parenting, strengthening believers, and influencing non-believers that result in God's glory, oneness, and love? If not, make an immediate adjustment by reading the Word and communicating it to others. Because God's Word always affects — both us and others.
- Are you actively contributing to the oneness of believers? Consider how your actions, words, and relationships reflect the unity Jesus prayed for. Are you fostering unity within your church, family, and community? Reflect on ways you can promote oneness among fellow believers.
- How does your belief in Jesus manifest in your daily life? Take a moment to evaluate whether your faith in Jesus is visible through your actions. Are you living in a way that reflects God's glory, oneness, and love to those around you? Identify areas where you can align your beliefs more closely with your actions to significantly impact both believers and non-believers.
DO THIS: Let God's Word affect you to the point it affects others.
PRAY THIS: Lord, as I reflect on Your prayer for unity and oneness among believers, I ask for the strength and wisdom to live out my faith in ways that genuinely reflect Your glory and love to the world. May my belief in You have a transformative effect that draws others closer to You. Amen.
