Every Man Needs A Daniel

ENGLISH

Today Daniel walks into a cesspool. The party had stopped because there was this hand that appeared and wrote on the wall. And Daniel comes in to address the king, and here's what he says.

O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father kingship and greatness and glory and majesty. And because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive; whom he would, he raised up, and whom he would, he humbled. But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him. He was driven from among the children of mankind, and his mind was made like that of a beast, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will. And you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored. — Daniel 5:18-23

So basically, what's happening here is Daniel is taking Belshazzar out to the woodshed.

And guess what, fellas, we all need men like Daniel in our life. We need a man who will speak the truth before it's too late. But four things have to happen. First, we have to find a man like this. Second, once we find them, we have to permit them to speak the hard truth. Third, we have to listen without rejecting the man or his message. And fourth, we need to seek them out before we do something stupid. The problem with Belshazzar is that he inquires too late because the writing's on the wall. God's verdict is in. He has taken his sin too far and defiled the vessels from God's Holy Temple, something even his father Nebuchadnezzar never did.

So, guys, I want you to connect with another wiser man this week about a challenge you're facing. Then I want you to open up to him and practice letting an older and wiser man speak the truth to you. In the process, I want you to learn to get over your issues with being challenged. And then heed any wise and godly advice he gives before it's too late.

ASK THIS: What's the challenge you're facing where you need truth?

DO THIS: Go find a Daniel.

PRAY THIS: God, bring a Daniel across my path today to speak the truth to me.

PLAY THIS: Tell Me The Truth.

  1. Dave says:

I have been reminded that there is nothing I can to to redeem my sins. Jesus has done this for you and for me. I have confessed my sins to Jesus and my brothers in Christ. I have found my Daniel.

  2. Mike says:

I am 38 years old and I am just now finding Daniels in my life. I have become so grateful to have counsel from those that have gone before me. They serve as a good soundboard when I think I have a bright idea to recognize how dim it may be.

  3. Cory D says:

Funny how each generation forgets the advice of their father and the Father. I know I have played the role of Belshazzar. May our sons be wiser than their Dads.

  4. Dave says:

As most of us have heard before, iron sharpens iron! Finding a Daniel who sharpens makes a difference. I pray we are all open to having a Daniel and seek them out and share our struggles. Sharing lightens the load and multiplies the joys. Ask your Daniel, “tell me the truth”.

  5. Mark says:

Brothers, I have a Daniel – and together with God he is one of the biggest blessings I’ve had in my life. I’m a better man, a better Christian because of Chris. Vince is right, if you don’t have a Daniel in your life, find one, you’ll be better because of it.
