Fear Not
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10
There is plenty to fear in this life. And sometimes your fears can be so pronounced they can paralyze forward movement. This is especially evident when in spite of your best efforts a negative outcome is expected. In fact, one of the more common commands of God in the face of this is "Fear not." But this isn't a command that ignores the reality of fear. Nor is it one that suggests you need to muster the positive human strength to overcome your fears. No! It's a call to "Fear not" that demands we trust in something and someone more certain than fear - the certainty of God. Just notice the repeated focus on the presence of God and what he will do in this one verse.
- "I am with you."
- "I am your God."
- "I will strengthen you."
- "I will help you."
- "I will uphold you."
Today as fears come to your attention, acknowledge them, but then immediately turn your attention to God. Remind yourself that God and his promises are more real than fear itself.
DO THIS: When fear arises, trust in God.
PRAYER: God, I am concerned about _______________. Help me to believe you will be present to me through this. Help me to trust in your strength and character.
