FOLLOW GOD
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. Genesis 12:1-5
This is an exceptional story of God calling a man on an incredible journey. The description of how God called Abram gives us insight into how God calls. The words "great" and "bless," repeated numerous times, reveal the heart of the God toward Abram. What is missing are all the details between leaving and experiencing great blessing. Abram does not let that keep him from obediently following God.
As men, we can expect God to call us to great things. Abram's calling is not a play-by-play we can follow, but it demonstrates God's heart in calling men. He may not lay out every detail when He calls, but there is a blessing found in following God. The bible doesn't tell us of a hesitant man, but of a man who went all in. As you discern the direction God is leading you, do not get hung up on the details. Be wise and demonstrate courage when you step out. Obedience is the measure of success.
