“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.” Hebrews 1:10-12

What lasts forever?

I can make a pretty long list of things I would like to last forever. Moments with my kids when they were young, things I’ve owned like the ’79 Pontiac Firebird I got when I was 16, and the edge on my favorite knife. Those are just a few things on a long list. I’ve made buying decisions based on the length of the warranty. Like a tool that boasts a “forever warranty.” Tempting, but not true. Only one thing will outlast all others, and that is the God who created it all.

Here we see the Biblical writer reflecting on the very works of God’s hands. The heavens, to them most likely everything they could see in the sky, was a seemingly unchangeable thing. Even the most confident of creation, that which you could conceive as not changing, will someday be gone or different. Only God remains the same. This should be on the front of our minds as we think of what will last. Our thoughts should go to praise and investment in thinking of the great unchanging God.

DO THIS TODAY: Praise God as the One who will not change.
