God Is Telling A Story. Are You Listening?

When we had come to Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly. On the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present. After greeting them, he related one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. And when they heard it, they glorified God. And they said to him, "You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed." — Acts 21:17-20

It's so much fun when men get together and tell stories, isn't it?

One after another, these men are trading stories about what God has done. And I would assume they keep getting bigger and better every time.

But remember, these are not just stories about what they did, but what God did as he worked through them. And for them to be able to tell these stories, they had to pay attention to God and see what he was doing.

I think sometimes in our life we are not paying very careful attention to God's work. We go about life very naturally and fail to see what God is doing supernaturally. But God is doing supernatural things all the time. Most that we miss. And if we miss them, we cannot tell stories about them.

So today, do this. Pay more careful attention to what God is doing as you go about your day. As you head to work. As you interact with people. As you talk on the phone. As you send emails. And note the things that you can see God doing. Then later today, follow this up by sharing a story of what you saw God do. Share it with a family member or post about it on social media. And I bet if you did this for just a few days, two things would happen. First, you would get better at noticing God's work, and second, you would get better at telling about it too.

ASK THIS: What is God doing in your life? (Share below if you know the answer now. Help other men learn how to do this by sharing your story of God's work.)

DO THIS: Share a story of God's work.

PRAY THIS: God, help me pay attention to what you are doing. And give me one great story to tell today.

God showed me, through an aside from my wife, that it is time for me to cut back at work and find a replacement so that I can be a full time stay at home dad again. I almost missed this wonderful opportunity, but I never ignore my wife and I always answer her honestly, so there are times when a gift of a conversation happen that would have been a missed opportunity as much as 8 years ago in our 15 years of marriage. that’s when i rededicated my life to Jesus and stopped being a hypocrite.

I come up short in regards to sharing all the wonderful things He has done in my life. I need to continue to work on being more intentional, steadfast and open about my faith.

I try to excuse it because it’s not my spiritual gift, but I don’t make the extra effort required either.

    Have a blessed weekend men!

There are too many things in specific to list, but in general He is revealing to me what is important in this life. Spoiler …. it is not whiskey nor women, a big bank account or lavish living with bragging rights . Do not get me wrong, my wife is one of those many blessings but not as a “trophy” or somethingI accomplished to lay claim too. Just wanted to clarify that haha

If a man does not work he should not eat. This verse has been a lot of my meditation lately. Working in the field needs to be done in order to reap a harvest. I used to isolate this verse to physical work and physical food but it seems that God has (as he always does) made this part of the makeup of the creation. It is hard to work with people, truly work with them. I want to reap a fruit and it is needful I remain diligent in my work, and the things that are going on in my spirit have a lot to do with what fruit I will reap. I need to not be overwhelmed by the work but enjoy it and reap the harvest. Working with someone because their is reward in this labor, because who wants to sit at the table alone at the end of the day? I have enjoyed meditating on this and have challenged in the application.

Thanks for this devo. I used to share those with others all the time. As new beliver I would go to church and hear men talking about the game yesterday, hunting, cars, and I thought “why are you talking about this stuff? Is God not working all around you? ” Now, 35 years later I find myself doing the same thing.
His stories are much more fascinating than the OT victory from last night.
    Thanks for the encouragement.

I find myself convicted of what thoughts my idle mind defaults to. Therefore I try to pray without ceasing so He is always on my mind. I so wish it came more naturally to discuss the kingdom and spread the word as my default. Thanks for sharing. Keep running that race.
