Good Discernment

ENGLISH

That by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.—Romans 12:2

Christian discernment is unique. It assumes that the flesh and the Spirit are in a perpetual struggle. That we exist in the flesh, and yet we must live by the Spirit. And this Spirit that dwells within us has the power to guide, direct, convict, and intercede for us. Therefore we must submit our minds to its testing and discerning processes. This means we need the two-fold work of the Spirit. First, we need to be indwelled by the Spirit of God. And second, we must subject our mind to the Spirit regularly and thus the will of God.

And here's how we engage this second work. We must expose our minds to the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God through the regular intake of biblical content where we test the thoughts, ideas, and images of the world against the truth.

DO THIS: Test and discern at least one questionable thought today, against the truth in God's Word and let the Spirit work.

PRAY THIS: God, give me discernment that goes well beyond my years and help me become more sensitive to the Spirit and his leading.
