The Election Was Called Early
So remember, Daniel sees four beasts coming out of the sea, then a great throne room, and with it a Judge who disperses judgment. And here's what happens next:
“I saw in the night visions,
and behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
And to him was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
that shall not be destroyed. — Daniel 7:13-14
This is what we want to happen. When we look out at the injustice in the world, we crave justice. Whenever I hear about corruption in the news or my community, my soul craves justice. I especially want justice when an injustice happens to me. And during election years, we go to the polls hoping our vote and the candidate we elect will make the difference. But they never do. In some way, or many ways, they always come up short. And we are reminded time and time again that what we want and need is a better leader — a perfect judge who can judge justly.
And what Daniel sees in this vision is that leader. The good news is we don't have to vote for him. He was determined and appointed by the Ancient of Days. He doesn't come from the earth. He comes from the clouds. He lived among us but didn't act like us. He was righteous in all his ways, and he judges righteously. And when the time comes, he will reign forever, unlike any other king and kingdom.
Fellas being a good citizen is a nice thing to do. You should participate in elections. You should obey the laws of our land. You should pray that righteous leaders will arise in our time. But remember, we don't need to find a king. We have one. He's been elected. He has established a kingdom. We are citizens of this place. This world is temporary, but his kingdom will last forever and never be destroyed. And guess what? He's coming again, so leave justice, redemption, and leadership to him.
ASK THIS: Are you letting Jesus lead?
DO THIS: Let Jesus lead in all parts of life.
PRAY THIS: Jesus, you're the leader, and I am not. Come, Lord Jesus, come.
PLAY THIS: Come, Lord Jesus.
