How To Ensure What I Want Is What God Wants

Now after these events Paul resolved in the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome." And having sent into Macedonia two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while. — Acts 19:21-22

This is more a parenthetical statement by Luke, but I love that he put it here. It helps us to see Paul's heart. His desire was to eventually "see Rome." But even more, we discover he is "resolved" to go to Jerusalem. His passion is to bring financial support to the church there because some believers were struggling financially. This helps us see that some of the new churches planted by Paul were of greater financial stability to come to the aid of other believers. And this is what the people of the church do — they come to each other's help.

And this is what I love about our journey with Paul through Acts. Before Christ, he was a man who listened only to his spirit and his desires. But now we discover he listens differently. All of his plans are set aside, even his own, to "see Rome." Instead, he is listening to the Spirit, not just his spirit, and he sets the latter aside, prioritizing what God wants.

How about you?

Is there something you want today that you need to set aside? Is there something in your spirit that is competing with God's Spirit? If so, do me a favor today. Listen more to God's Spirit than your spirit. It may divert you from what you want to do. It may result in you reworking your plans. It may mean investing some of your time or energy. But isn't life better as a follower when we just follow the Spirit by listening, obeying, and taking the step he wants rather than the one we want?

And as you do this, you may discover the man Paul had become. A man resolved to live by The Spirit.

Bro!!!!! , this is so amazing!!!!! . I’m in financial services. My career is taking a turn. My goal is to help my community with investment. Recently pass several months . I’ve seen some great things happened with crypto Invesment’s. Research makes perfect sense . I’m running around passionate telling everyone about it. Well recently , I realized something . Is this really you just hype up and telling everyone one? Or is this really what Gods wants you to do? Spoke to a brother in Christ . He said “ you are passionate about this subject pray and I’ll pray for you to put this passion aside and to listen to God. To guide you “ this was Wednesday. Today I see this and wow amazing. God telling me “ listen to me , I’ll lead you stop trying to lead yourself “

Keep serving, keep tithing, do my best to do the next right thing and be the best version of myself. And when I’m not or fall miserably short… have grace for myself.

Part of me is struggling with the patient endurance to pursue a relationship. If I don’t am I being lazy or patient? If I do, is it my will over His? I’m good with either, but I pray for wisdom to know the difference. And that my eyes and ears be open to His will.
