Impatient Blessings

Jacob loved Rachel. And he said, “I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel.” —Genesis 29:18

Have you ever had to wait what seemed like an eternity for a blessing? I have. For some reason, time elongates when the thing we want is right in front of us, yet we cannot at present grasp it.

Jacob, blessed by God through Abraham's promise, would learn this lesson many times in his life. And even though God's blessing to him was imminent, his waiting turned out to be much longer than he anticipated. There is an excellent lesson in this. One that we fail to remember in our impatience. It's that God blessings and promises must come to pass. They cannot be prevented by people, circumstances, negativity, or even our own impatience. And once we have grasped this, we have understood the true blessing—contentment, and peace while waiting for the imminent blessing. So today, live in a peace that passes all understanding knowing that God's blessing is coming. It might just be around the next bend.

DO THIS: Be content, patient, and be blessed.

PRAY THIS: God, help me to see beyond my circumstances to the blessing of patience and peace at this moment. And thank you for the blessings that I know will come, even though now I do not have sight of them.
