Increase My Spiritual Awareness
The saying is trustworthy, for:
If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
if we endure, we will also reign with him;
if we deny him, he also will deny us;
if we are faithless, he remains faithful
for he cannot deny himself.—2 Timothy 2:11-13
Here are the four spiritual realities that Paul tells Timothy to trust in.
- We are spiritually united with Jesus in his death and resurrection.
- We are spiritually united with Jesus when we endure a trial.
- We can spiritually deny Jesus, but if we do, he will deny us.
- We should be spiritually committed to Jesus because he is always committed to us.
Paul is telling Timothy that those who are trustworthy over a lifetime have a deep spiritual impact. To have this deep effect, we must know these spiritual realities and live cognizant of them. Because a trustworthy follower has this spiritual connection to the work, experiences, challenges, and mission of Jesus Christ.
In our time, I think some Christians may feel disconnected from this reality. But just because we spiritually feel this way, this does not change our spiritual reality. The reality is we are deeply connected to Christ. Even in moments, we are less cognitively aware of what Christ is doing in and around us. Even as we go through the routine of our day, sometimes completely unaware of a spiritual reality, Jesus is always working and present.
The call to action is for us to become more spiritually aware. We should increase our awareness by giving notice to how the Triune God is moving about us. So today, don't go through your natural routine ignoring your spiritual reality. See your day spiritually. Notice those interruptions, problems, challenges, and conversations as divine appointments which give way to the work, experiences, challenges, and mission of Jesus Christ. Open your eyes to a spiritual reality.
