For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10

There is nothing more polarizing for a man than purpose. Think for a moment of a time in your life when you felt little to no purpose. Experiencing a lack of purpose is one of the top reasons men self-destruct. Not being a meaningful contributor in some way, or even being underutilized, can have devastating consequences on a man. On the other hand, having purpose drives empowerment and action.

There have been moments in my career when I had great clarity about my role. Even in the face of the most difficult challenges, when I knew what it was I was supposed to do, I experienced great freedom in understanding my purpose. The opposite is true as well. Men who lack clarity of purpose tend to feel lost and unmotivated. By God’s grace, we do have a purpose.

Men are not born without purpose. Our role is not to create our purpose; it is to discover it. God prepared what it is we were meant to do before we were even born. No craftsman designs something without purpose. We are His workmanship. We are created for good works. God planned for our meaningful involvement. And the one role we have is: to live for that purpose. Taking to heart the great purpose God will fuel a life-long purpose discovery process. Find it, walk in it, and repeat.

DO THIS TODAY: Ask God to reveal to you His purpose.
