It's I

ENGLISH

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid."—Matthew 14:27

Notice that Jesus tells Peter precisely what to do—"Take heart, it is I. Do not be afraid." Jesus is giving Peter real-world advice. He acknowledges that Peter does have real human fears at this moment—fear of sinking, failure, and death. Yet Jesus also understands there is a greater fear—holy fear of the One who stands before him on the water.

When you encounter a fear today, take a second to identify what fear you have. Then categorize it either as human or holy. And then listen carefully to Jesus's voice and take courage and then act promptly in holy, reverent, and divine fear for the One who matters—God.

DO THIS: Act exclusively in holy fear today.

PRAY THIS: God, my human fears are many. Shift my attention from me to you, a God who walks on the surface of the water.
