Day 15

Generosity

Scripture

So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all grumbled, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner." And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold." And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."—Luke 19:6-10

Devotional

We are forever affected by relationships. Men desire them and want them. Such was the case with Zacchaeus. While ignored and isolated from relationships because of his much-hated occupation, this did not mean that he necessarily wanted his life to be this way. Many feel trapped by the situations of life and perceive there is no way out of their present circumstance. Such are men who are homeless, culturally oppressed, or those who feel branded by the failings of their past.

But what would happen if we helped brothers see past these challenges and failings and learned to love one another? What if we took the time to see beyond our assumptive ideas (He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner) and the apparent issues we see with our eyes? Men are searching and looking for hope beyond their challenges, cultures, circumstances, and sin. What if we saw men who were hopeful brothers, and helped them overcome? There are men we know out there in need of relationship, acceptance, and love. And God's love, through you, has the power and potential to turn a man's heart from isolation to involvement that leads to benevolence, philanthropy, and generosity.

This week we are focusing on the discipline of brotherhood.

Your Call To Act (C.T.A.) today is:

  • Pray: for 5-minutes, for someone you know who you know is searching for love and acceptance
  • Share: below, this man's initials (not his name). "V.L.M" or "V.M"
  • Reach: out to this man in some way, and tell him you prayed for him today. By text, email, or a simple phone call.

We should all be able to relate to the story of Zacheus. Jesus Christ has visited all of us and comes to save . Great reminder in this time of cleansing to be generous and overcome greed. God bless you beyond your wildest imaginations this day.

As men we need to be the mom leaders and show the way we care and love our brothers in Christ no matter who they are or where they have come from. Jesus does that to all of us.

  4. Dave Benson says:

I’m praying for B.B. this morning. Reading about Zacchaeus in the tree reminds me of when we would put our kids up on our shoulders when they were young so they could see over the crowd. Lord, use me as a sycamore-fig tree to lift other men up and let it start today!

  5. Stephen Rovezzi says:

JR…..Very close to me….I reach out now and again…but no response. I will continue, no, I will up my communication with him whether he acknowledges or not…because I love him…. he is family.

Lord, I pray that my brother would be receptive to your love, your grace, your reality. And that he would know the source of all love, whether from me or others, comes from you, O’ God.

  9. Warren M Campbell Sr says:

I can’t hold a person’s past against them because I don’t live in the past but the present. I can help you, love you, befriend you today because today is the only day I have. Plus the scriptures states “such were some of you”. Thank The Lord for his mercy and Grace.
