And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah."—Matthew 17:1-4
Peter is always eager to contribute. He has an exuberance that some men have, others want, and all men can relate to. He appears to have these impulsive responses throughout the New Testament. And who wouldn't? Peter and his two buds, James and John, catch a rare glimpse of what Jesus being changed into a glorified state. And thus his response.
Men who are excited about something show it. On occasion we will be caught shouting at the television, singing at concerts, and dancing in celebration. We do this when our pretense is low, and enthusiasm is high. And it's entertaining to see this from men. But it is even more exciting to see it come from men who are excited about their relationship with Christ—like Peter is here! So today, be excited about something, but even more, be excited about Christ. There has to be something that you have spiritually seen or experienced that is worth a shout, song, or dance in your life. Take a moment to praise God about it, and then share it with the people in your life.
This week we are focusing our discipline on the theme of prayer.
