For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:9-11
Over the course of several days, I noticed a long green line rise above the dead grass in the corner of my yard. It was a peculiar site since the rest of my yard was green and growing except for the cone-shaped brown patch separated by a green strip of healthy and vibrant turf. It finally dawned on me that one of the sprinkler heads in my irrigation system must be malfunctioning. I activated the system and sure enough, the water fell from the sky right over the growing grass. It failed to turn as designed, leaving the other grass brown. A man’s life is no different.
God’s Word is what has the potential to produce growth in our lives. He does not fail to give it to us, yet we do fail to apply it to the bulk of our lives. For many men, the green line of growing turf may be once or twice a week we receive God’s Word. The other days are the brown and crispy dying grass of our lives because we can fail to cover ourselves with God’s Word daily. To experience the life-giving effect of the Bible, cover your life with scripture on a daily basis.
