Need Affirmation?

And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” —Mark 1:11

I have been thinking about this for weeks. Affirmation is powerful for men — and me. One small word of affirmation from my wife, children, boss, or friends, and it elicits a physical and emotional response from me. Sometimes it is met with surprise that results in joy and even tears. And why? Maybe because we do not hear it too often? And we should because it has the power to motivate men.

In fact, we all long to hear this voice. We need to listen to this voice, which is precisely why God says this. And he does this not only for the primary benefit of His Son but also so we will hear the power in it and do the same.

DO THIS: Give words of affirmation freely today. They need it, and so do you.

• "That a boy!"
• "Great job, kiddo!"
• "You killed it, buddy!"
• "I'm so proud of you <insert your name here>."

PRAY THIS: God, it is hard to believe, but thank you for your voice of affirmation in my life. Help my heart to let you in, and give me the humility to be loved by you.
