When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.

Luke 5:4-6

If Jesus made a strange request, how would you respond? Keep in mind Simon was a skilled fisherman, he immediately knew how unusual this request was. And Simon didn't comply because he was convinced it would work. Simon's response was based on Jesus, not on what he understood the situation to be.

With reservations, Simon willingly obeyed. And Jesus' request yielded an absurd and astonishing result. There will be times when following God does not seem to fit conventional wisdom. Instead of trust what you know, trust Jesus. There will always be enough evidence to be confident in Christ, but the challenge will be having faith when there are doubts. Be like Simon in response to Jesus.
