When You Are Overwhelmed & Sickened
At the end of Daniel's vision about the ram and goat, there is this short statement that is so intriguing. Daniel 8:27 reads:
And I, Daniel, was overcome and lay sick for some days. Then I rose and went about the king's business, but I was appalled by the vision and did not understand it. — Daniel 8:27
I love this statement. It's so real. This 90-year-old man is so honest about how he experienced this revelation. And this helps me, an everyday man, to connect with the humanity of Daniel. Daniel is just like us at times — overwhelmed and sickened. He is overwhelmed by what God is doing. At the same time, he is sickened by what man will do in the future.
But look at what Daniel does in response. He states in the text, "I rose up and went about the king's business." This means that while he was overwhelmed and sickened, he didn't stop moving forward. And you know why? Because he knew the clarity he needed was out in the future. It was lived out one day at a time.
Today if you feel overwhelmed and sickened by either what is happening in the world or maybe in your own life. Do this. Keep moving forward. God's plan always gets clear as we keep taking steps of faith.
ASK THIS: What has you overwhelmed and sickened?
DO THIS: Keep moving forward.
PRAY THIS: God, I confess I am overwhelmed and confused. But help me take the steps I need to this day.
PLAY THIS: Even When It Hurts.

The state of the world. Overwhelmed? No. Sickened, yes! The mentality of “we are accepting and love everyone,” except you, because you think differently than we do. It’s on both sides of the isle and the hypocrisy of it is sickening.
Love thy neighbor! If you are truly righteous and maybe they are not, they might need your grace and mercy more than anything. Lead with love and kill them with kindness.
Easy to say, hard to always do. I fall short of this daily.
Pastor Vince – Yes, and amen! As I tell the men in my life we are called NOT to understand all that God does, but we are called to obey Him in every situation! He holds us and our futures.
The direction the country is headed in, the heart hurts for our children, my prayer for this nation is that we would return to the God of our fathers.
Sometimes it’s just looking in the mirror.
I know that feeling. Praise God that we have the blood of Jesus to cover the ugliness of our sin. I think it does us good to remember that and to know that God sent His son while we were sinners. Jesus died while we were sinners. You are loved that much inspite if the ugliness of sin. I try to let that give me peace and joy to tell others about His love and then work on sinning less each day. So maybe I read my own life into your statement but I just wanted to say…. remember that you are loved.
Thank you Trent for the gentle reminder!
