“When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it.”
John 18:1
Jesus, in the moments before His capture, prioritized prayer.
Have you ever seen an excellent performance, a fantastic feat, or flawless routine? A man who can do something with excellence is a man who knows how to prepare for excellence. A college professor of mine once said, “Practice does not make perfect, it makes permanent.”
Easily overlooked as a side note, John tells us something compelling about Jesus as He faced betrayal and capture. He finished praying. Jesus practiced prayer so regularly; it was a permanent fixture in His heart. Facing His last days with resolute determination and flawless action was no accident. Jesus practiced prayer.
