Give ear to my words, O Lord;
consider my groaning.
Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for to you do I pray.
O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.—Psalm 5:1-3
Daily our ears hear. They hear all sorts of things. But do they hear from God? If you are like me, my devices, email, and social media cry for my attention in the morning, as if they had something significant for me. They deafen my ears to the words of the Lord. Yet when we are in a single moment of desperation, we expect God to give ear to the sound of our cry. And he does! Unlike us, God is not too busy, not too distracted, and not too consumed with other things to give us time and attention. Like King David does here, instead of starting today with other things that deafen your ears to God, this morning cry out first to God. Prepare the sacrifice first, early, and often and then watch the God of all greatness show you incredible things.
DO THIS: Cry out to God first.
PRAY THIS: God, here is my request today...
