The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:9-14
When Jesus came, He brought with Him an incredible opportunity that is available to anyone. The right to become a member of God’s family is open to any who receive and believe in Jesus Christ.
The advent of Jesus was less about a first appearance and more about a revelation. John tells us that Jesus was already in the world and the very existence we know was brought forth through Christ. Our problem was a profoundly spiritual one related to our knowledge. We did not know Jesus. The solution was a very humble entrance and a humiliating exit, but everything was done to reveal God.
Consider both the problem and the promise made light of during Advent. It is accurate to say that all people are created as God’s image, but not all have the right to become His child. This is a severe problem that is addressed by one man: Jesus. How important it is for us to be like God and reveal Jesus to all around us! As you navigate this season, find ways to share with others the promise available in Christ.
DO THIS TODAY: Reveal Jesus in your conversation with those around you.
