Put A Muzzle On It

"I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue. I will guard my mouth with a muzzle." —Psalm 39:1

Of course, it is not your "tongue" that's the problem; it's the words that roll off it. But a wrongful word delivers a sinful thought that lurches within the heart. Sometimes the heart endures a hurt, then the mind plans a defense, and finally, the mouth speaks, defends, or attacks. And the things we feel, think, and say have implications on the people around us, sometimes resulting in suffering. Many times suffering is born from ineffective guarding. So today, instead of letting the tongue to run free, maybe it's time to put a muzzle on it.

DO THIS: Keep a reign on your tongue.

PRAY THIS: God, may I be keenly aware today of the implications of the words I speak.
